The Aquilos Cryo-FIB/SEM is a focused ion beam/scanning electron microscope system dedicated to preparation of thin lamella samples from biological or beam-sensitive materials in a vitrified state. Cryo-lamellae are snapshots of functional native environments whose supramolecular architecture can be studied in situ at high resolution and in 3D by electron tomography.
The Aquilos is recommended for preparing lamellae for tomography data collections. For high resolution cryoSEM imaging, please look at the microscopes at the Peterson Nanotechnology Material Core Facility at the Koch Institute as they may be better suited for this application.
